What does vitamin C help with? Vitamin C is available in many products, but its deficiencies can be very dangerous to health. This is why we often reach for dietary supplements containing this ingredient.

What can we find vitamin C in?

The food we eat every day is usually very rich in vitamin C. We will find it primarily in plant products, i.e. fruits and vegetables, but not only. Where is it the most? Acerola is the absolute queen in this field. The content of vitamin C in acerola is almost four times as much as in the second most vitamin-rich product – rose hips. A lot of vitamin C is also found in chili peppers (both sweet and spicy), parsley, dill, blackcurrant, Brussels sprouts, kale, spinach, strawberries, wild strawberries and citrus fruits.

Much less vitamin C can be found in meat products – it does not match the amount of concentration contained in plants. What’s more, we usually find it in offal. Small amounts of vitamin C can be found in beef or pork liver, as well as in some fish, such as cod.

In what forms is vitamin C available?

However, it should be remembered that vitamin C contained in food is one of the substances most susceptible to destruction. It is eliminated not only by thermal treatment, but even access to light or direct contact with air! And yet, both fruits and vegetables are often boiled, frozen or dried before serving. When it comes to meat and fish, we practically do not eat them raw. That is why we often decide to supplement our diet with vitamin C with the help of preparations available at the pharmacy.

In what form can we find vitamin C in the pharmacy? First of all, they will be easy to swallow tablets. Often, however, we also decide on other forms – it can be powder or drops. In the case of vitamins for children, candies, syrups and lollipops are also available.

What does vitamin C help with?

Vitamin C is a very important substance – it is even necessary for the proper functioning of our body. It is not only an excellent antioxidant that prevents the development of cancer, heart and circulatory diseases in the body. Vitamin C is also a so-called enzyme activator. This means that many important enzymes needed for the proper functioning of our internal organs could not function without this vitamin.

That’s not all – vitamin C is also necessary for the proper absorption of some nutrients. This is the case with iron, for example. If there are deficiencies of vitamin C in the body, they will also lead to iron deficiency, and consequently – anemia. Similarly, if we want to supplement iron deficiencies, we must remember about the simultaneous supplementation of vitamin C.

Vitamin C also has a significant impact on the so-called connective tissues. These are tissues that both connect various elements of our body and simply protect them from displacement and damage. It is vitamin C that is largely responsible for their condition. The answer to the question of what vitamin C helps is therefore – primarily to all the effects caused by its deficiency.

Also, our bones and teeth benefit from proper vitamin C supplementation. It strengthens both our teeth and the gums in which the teeth are embedded. Therefore, it helps to prevent many dangerous gum and tooth diseases, and significantly reduces the development of caries.

Vitamin C is also of great importance for the proper functioning of the immune system of our bodies. It is he who is responsible for our resistance to all kinds of infections – bacterial, viral, fungal and even parasitic. The appropriate level of vitamin C guarantees the efficient functioning of the immune system. Thanks to this, we are less threatened by all infectious diseases that we encounter in everyday life.

A similar role is played by vitamin C in the case of wounds that somehow ended up on our skin or body. The body, having received information that a wound has been created, immediately begins to rebuild tissues in this place. It consists of a number of stages. The first is blood clotting, which stops its flow and prevents it from bleeding out of the wound – which could even lead to our death. Then the damaged cells are removed and finally replaced with new, healthy ones. Vitamin C is essential for each of these steps.

What does vitamin C help with?

As you can see, it has many tasks within our bodies. Above all, it supports the functioning of all our life activities by activating the enzymes necessary for us to live. It protects us against cancer and slows down the aging process of the body. It supports the absorption of other nutrients, such as iron, preventing the formation of further deficiencies, and is responsible for the proper composition of the body’s connective tissues.
What’s more, vitamin C supports our actions aimed at protecting oral health – it ensures the proper condition of the teeth and prevents the development of caries. Vitamin C also increases the body’s immunity and accelerates wound healing.
